The Washington Asset Building Coalition has merged with the Financial Empowerment Network as of July 1st!

FEN and WABC have long been collaborators in the financial empowerment space, and over the last year have worked even more closely on a number of projects. After months of discussion and planning, the boards of both organizations recognized that together we could form a stronger and more effective organization to serve providers across Washington. 

Who We Are

 

WABC is a statewide association working to promote policies and programs in Washington that assist low-and-moderate income residents build, maintain & preserve assets through investments in education, homeownership, personal savings and entreprenuership. We partner with policy-makers, financial institutions & service providers  on the regional, state and federal levels to create , innovative, systemic solutions to addressing poverty so that all Washingtonians have an opportunity to acheive a secure economic future & live with dignity.

 

What We Do

 

WABC focuses on opportunities to enact systemic change. A few examples of our work include:

 

EXPANDING EDUCATION:

  • K-12 financial education classes

  • Financial coaching for adults

 

PROMOTING SAVINGS:

  • College Savings Accounts

  • Access to mainstream banking

  • Prize-linked Savings Accounts

 

INCREASING HOMEOWNERSHIP:

  • Home-purchasing programs

  • Foreclosure prevention

 

SUPPORT ENTREPRENUERSHIP:

  • Micro-enterprise opportunities

  • Individual Development Accounts (IDA's)

Our Network

 

While WABC is uniquely focused on systemic change through policy and program innovation, we rely on our statewide network of 16 local asset building coaltiions (known as "Local ABC's") across Washington to implement these programs on-the-ground. We support our network through providing training opportunities, sharing best practices and leveraging our partnerships with financial institutions in order to acheive greater impact.
